An exploitable use-after-free vulnerability exists in the JavaScript engine of Foxit Software's Foxit PDF Reader version 8.3.2.25013. A specially crafted PDF document can trigger a previously freed object in memory to be reused, resulting in arbitrary code execution. An attacker needs to trick the user to open the malicious file to trigger this vulnerability. If the browser plugin extension is enabled, visiting a malicious site can also trigger the vulnerability.

The bug was discovered 04/19/2018. The weakness was presented 04/23/2018 by Aleksandar Nikolic with Cisco Talos (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-14458 since 09/13/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
