IBM Security QRadar SIEM 7.2/7.3 Request path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in IBM Security QRadar SIEM 7.2/7.3 (Log Management Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with the input value /../ leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, and availability. CVE summarizes:

IBM Security QRadar SIEM 7.2 and 7.3 could allow a remote attacker to traverse directories on the system. An attacker could send a specially-crafted URL request containing "dot dot" sequences (/../) to view arbitrary files on the system. IBM X-Force ID: 134812.

The bug was discovered 04/24/2018. The weakness was released 04/26/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-1723 since 11/30/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication.
