The Norton Core router prior to v237 may be susceptible to a command injection exploit. This is a type of attack in which the goal is execution of arbitrary commands on the host system via vulnerable software.
The bug was discovered 04/30/2018. The weakness was presented 04/30/2018 by Alex (Website). The advisory is shared at symantec.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-5234 since 01/05/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
