A Code Injection issue was discovered in DlgSelectMibFile.asp in Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold before 2018 (18.0). Malicious actors can inject a specially crafted SNMP MIB file that could allow them to execute arbitrary commands and code on the WhatsUp Gold server.
The bug was discovered 03/07/2018. The weakness was shared 05/01/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at docs.ipswitch.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-8938 since 03/22/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 55 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:DlgSelectMibFile.asp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 18.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
