The TIFFWriteDirectorySec() function in tif_dirwrite.c in LibTIFF through 4.0.9 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure and application crash) via a crafted file.
The bug was discovered 05/10/2018. The weakness was shared 05/10/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.maptools.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-10963 since 05/09/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
