Jenkins 2.32.1/2.43 Remote API Config information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability has been found in Jenkins 2.32.1/2.43 (Continuous Integration Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component Remote API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (Config). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

In jenkins before versions 2.44, 2.32.2 node monitor data could be viewed by low privilege users via the remote API. These included system configuration and runtime information of these nodes (SECURITY-343).

The bug was discovered 02/01/2017. The weakness was shared 05/15/2018 with CloudBees, Inc. as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-2600 since 12/01/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 96939 (FreeBSD : jenkins -- multiple vulnerabilities (5cfa9d0c-73d7-4642-af4f-28fbed9e9404)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11990 (Jenkins Multiple Security Vulnerabilities (Security Advisory 2017-02-01)).

Upgrading to version 2.32.2 or 2.44 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (96939) and SecurityFocus (BID 95954†). The entries VDB-63705, VDB-74330, VDB-90735 and VDB-103642 are related to this item. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
