Dell EMC RecoverPoint versions prior to 5.1.2 and RecoverPoint for VMs versions prior to 5.1.1.3, contain a command injection vulnerability. An unauthenticated remote attacker may potentially exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary commands on the affected system with root privilege.
The bug was discovered 05/22/2018. The weakness was shared 05/29/2018 by Paul as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-1235 since 12/06/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1202 for this issue.
The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 7 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
