Accellion FTP server prior to version FTA_9_12_220 only returns the username in the server response if the username is invalid. An attacker may use this information to determine valid user accounts and enumerate them.
The bug was discovered 02/08/2017. The weakness was released 07/13/2018 by Ashish Kamble as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-9499 since 11/21/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
