A vulnerability was found in McAfee Vulnerability Manager 7.5.5. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The software does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Impacted is integrity. An attacker might be able to inject arbitrary html and script code into the web site. This would alter the appearance and would make it possible to initiate further attacks against site visitors.

The weakness was released 01/09/2014 by Nuri Fattah as SB10061 as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared at kc.mcafee.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-1472 since 01/15/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72588 (McAfee Vulnerability Manager Enterprise Manager Multiple Vulnerabilities (SB10061)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows.

Upgrading to version 7.0.11.05002_EM, 7.5.4.05007_EM or 7.5.5.05002_EM eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch SB10061 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at update.foundstone.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
