An issue was discovered in kwajd_read_headers in mspack/kwajd.c in libmspack before 0.7alpha. Bad KWAJ file header extensions could cause a one or two byte overwrite.
The bug was discovered 10/26/2017. The weakness was presented 07/28/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-14681 since 07/28/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
