Unchecked NULL pointer usage in xkbcommon before 0.8.1 could be used by local attackers to crash (NULL pointer dereference) the xkbcommon parser by supplying a crafted keymap file, because geometry tokens were desupported incorrectly.
The bug was discovered 08/03/2018. The weakness was published 08/25/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-15854 since 08/24/2018. Upgrading to version 0.8.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 3 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
