The Taxonomy module in Drupal 7.x before 7.26, when upgraded from an earlier version of Drupal, does not properly restrict access to unpublished content, which allows remote authenticated users to obtain sensitive information via a listing page.

The weakness was disclosed 01/15/2014 by Matt Vance and Damien Tournoud as SA-CORE-2014-001 - Drupal core - Multiple vulnerabilities as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at drupal.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-1476 since 01/16/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72046 (Debian DSA-2847-1 : drupal7 - several vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 175263 (Debian Security Update for drupal7 (DSA-2847-1)).

Upgrading to version 7.26 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at drupal.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (90516) and Tenable (72046). The entries 11970, 11971, 12331 and 12333 are pretty similar.
