The test connection functionality in the NetAudit section of Opsview Monitor before 5.3.1 and 5.4.x before 5.4.2 is vulnerable to command injection due to improper sanitization of the rancid_password parameter.
The bug was discovered 09/04/2018. The weakness was released 09/05/2018 as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-16144 since 08/29/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13278 (Opsview Monitor Multiple Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 5.3.1 or 5.4.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
