Details
A vulnerability was found in PowerDNS and PowerDNS Recursor (Domain Name Software) (unknown version). It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown code block of the component TSIG Signature Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An issue has been found in PowerDNS before 3.4.11 and 4.0.2, and PowerDNS recursor before 4.0.4, allowing an attacker in position of man-in-the-middle to alter the content of an AXFR because of insufficient validation of TSIG signatures. A missing check of the TSIG time and fudge values was found in AXFRRetriever, leading to a possible replay attack.
The bug was discovered 12/15/2016. The weakness was released 09/11/2018 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com.
