Google Android SDK 2.0 ADB Client Code numeric error

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Google Android SDK 2.0 (Smartphone Operating System). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the component ADB Client Code Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-189. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Integer signedness error in system/core/adb/adb_client.c in Android Debug Bridge (ADB) for Android 4.4 in the Android SDK Platform Tools 18.0.1 allows ADB servers to execute arbitrary code via a negative length value, which bypasses a signed comparison and triggers a stack-based buffer overflow.

The weakness was shared 02/09/2014 by Joshua J. Drake as 1062095 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-1909 since 02/07/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. It is possible to download the exploit at downloads.securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 75354 (openSUSE Security Update : android-tools (openSUSE-SU-2014:0637-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at developers.google.com.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (91291) and Tenable (75354).
