A vulnerability in the web-based UI of Cisco Secure Access Control Server could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to gain read access to certain information in an affected system. The vulnerability is due to improper handling of XML External Entities (XXEs) when parsing an XML file. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing the administrator of an affected system to import a crafted XML file.

The bug was discovered 09/05/2018. The weakness was disclosed 10/05/2018 as cisco-sa-20180905-acsxxe as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at tools.cisco.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-0414 since 11/26/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a single authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 30 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
