An issue was discovered in Joomla! before 3.8.13. com_installer actions do not have sufficient CSRF hardening in the backend.

The bug was discovered 10/05/2018. The weakness was released 10/09/2018 by Paul (Website). The advisory is available at developer.joomla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-17858 since 10/01/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 118069 (Joomla! < 3.8.13 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
