jQuery before 3.0.0 is vulnerable to Cross-site Scripting (XSS) attacks when a cross-domain Ajax request is performed without the dataType option, causing text/javascript responses to be executed.
The bug was discovered 06/27/2015. The weakness was disclosed 10/16/2018 as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - October 2018 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at oracle.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-9251 since 01/18/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
