A vulnerability has been found in Apple iOS up to 12.0.1 (Smartphone Operating System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component CoreCrypto. The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-4398 since 01/02/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/03/2023). An issue existed in the method for determining prime numbers. This issue was addressed by using pseudorandom bases for testing of primes.

Upgrading to version 12.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
