It was found that usage of snprintf function in feature/locks translator of glusterfs server 3.8.4, as shipped with Red Hat Gluster Storage, was vulnerable to a format string attack. A remote, authenticated attacker could use this flaw to cause remote denial of service.

The bug was discovered 10/31/2018. The weakness was shared 10/30/2018 by Michael Hanselmann as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-14661 since 07/27/2018. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. A authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
