An issue was discovered in JasPer 2.0.14. There is a NULL pointer dereference in the function jp2_decode in libjasper/jp2/jp2_dec.c, leading to a denial of service.

The bug was discovered 07/13/2018. The weakness was presented 11/26/2018 by Agostino Sarubbo (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-19542 since 11/25/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
