The bug was discovered 12/05/2018. The weakness was published 12/05/2018 by HyungSeok Han, DongHyeon Oh and Sang Kil Cha with KAIST Softsec Lab as HT209346 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-4464 since 01/02/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The advisory points out:

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371368 (Apple iTunes for Windows Prior to 12.9.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities (HT209345)).

Upgrading to version 7.9 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
