A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome up to 70.0.3538.110 (Web Browser). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component PDFium. Incorrect object lifecycle in PDFium in Google Chrome prior to 71.0.3578.80 allowed a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted PDF file.
The bug was discovered 12/04/2018. The weakness was shared 12/11/2018 by Guang Gong with Qihoo 360 (Website). The advisory is available at chromereleases.googleblog.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-17481 since 09/25/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/18/2023). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 6 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
