A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in McAfee Antivirus 4.3.20 (Anti-Malware Software). This affects some unknown processing of the component LHA Archive Handler. The bug was discovered 03/17/2005. The weakness was disclosed 03/17/2005 by Alex Wheeler with rem0te.com (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2005-0643 since 03/04/2005. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at mcafee.com. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 15949. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 31053.
