In Apache Log4j 2.x before 2.8.2, when using the TCP socket server or UDP socket server to receive serialized log events from another application, a specially crafted binary payload can be sent that, when deserialized, can execute arbitrary code.
The bug was discovered 04/02/2017. The weakness was disclosed 01/16/2019 by Marcio Almeida as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - January 2019 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at oracle.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-5645. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/27/2023).
