An issue was discovered in Joomla! before 3.9.2. Inadequate escaping in mod_banners leads to a stored XSS vulnerability.

The bug was discovered 01/01/2019. The weakness was disclosed 01/16/2019 by Basti (Website). The advisory is available at developer.joomla.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2019-6264 since 01/14/2019. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 14 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
