A vulnerability classified as critical was found in MailSherlock up to 1.5. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file letgo.cgi. The manipulation of the argument select_mid
as part of a Parameter leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
SQL Injection exists in MailSherlock before 1.5.235 for OAKlouds allows an unauthenticated user to extract the subjects of the emails of other users within the enterprise via the select_mid parameter in an letgo.cgi request.
The bug was discovered 10/11/2018. The weakness was shared 02/11/2019 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at twcert.org.tw. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-17542 since 09/26/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
