A vulnerability was found in Symantec Norton Security and Endpoint Protection SBE on Windows (Anti-Malware Software) (affected version not known). It has been classified as problematic. Norton Security (Windows client) prior to 22.16.3 and SEP SBE (Windows client) prior to Cloud Agent 3.00.31.2817, NIS-22.15.2.22 & SEP-12.1.7484.7002, may be susceptible to a DLL Preloading vulnerability, which is a type of issue that can occur when an application looks to call a DLL for execution and an attacker provides a malicious DLL to use instead.
The weakness was disclosed 04/15/2019 by Cisco with Cisco Talos as SYMSA1479 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.symantec.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-18369 since 10/15/2018. The attack needs to be approached locally. A authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1574.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371759 (Symantec SEP Cloud Vulnerabilities and Norton Security for Windows(SYMSA1479)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
