A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in D-Link DSP-W215, DIR-505 and DIR-505L 1.01b06 (Router Operating System). Affected is the function do_hnap
of the file www/my_cgi.cgi. The manipulation as part of a HNAP Request leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Stack-based buffer overflow in the do_hnap function in www/my_cgi.cgi in D-Link DSP-W215 (Rev. A1) with firmware 1.01b06 and earlier, DIR-505 with firmware before 1.08b10, and DIR-505L with firmware 1.01 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long Content-Length header in a GetDeviceSettings action in an HNAP request.
The weakness was presented 05/15/2014 by Craig as Hacking the D-Link DSP-W215 Smart Plug as confirmed blog post (Website). The advisory is available at devttys0.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-3936 since 06/02/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
