Apereo CAS up to 6.1.0-RC4 Token Generator PRNG weak prng

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Apereo CAS up to 6.1.0-RC4. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Token Generator. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a weak prng vulnerability (PRNG). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-338. The product uses a Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) in a security context, but the PRNG's algorithm is not cryptographically strong. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple classes used within Apereo CAS before release 6.1.0-RC5 makes use of apache commons-lang3 RandomStringUtils for token and ID generation which makes them predictable due to RandomStringUtils PRNG's algorithm not being cryptographically strong.

The weakness was published 09/23/2019. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-10754 since 04/03/2019. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600.001 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 6.1.0-RC5 eliminates this vulnerability.
