BlackBoard CourseInfo 4.0 does not properly authenticate users, which allows local users to modify CourseInfo database information and gain privileges by directly calling the supporting CGI programs such as user_update_passwd.pl and user_update_admin.pl.

The weakness was released 07/18/2000 by Pedram Amini (Website). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2000-0627. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
