Directory traversal vulnerability in HomeSeer before 1.4.29 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a URL containing .. (dot dot) specifiers.

The bug was discovered 12/07/2000. The weakness was disclosed 02/16/2001 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2001-0037. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
