Windows Scripting Host in Internet Explorer 5.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via the GetObject Javascript function and the htmlfile ActiveX object.
The issue has been introduced in 07/08/2000. The weakness was disclosed 06/02/2001 by Georgi Guninski as MS01-015 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2001-0149. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
