Buffer overflow in ipcs in Solaris 7 x86 allows local users to execute arbitrary code via a long TZ (timezone) environmental variable, a different vulnerability than CAN-2002-0093.
The bug was discovered 04/12/2001. The weakness was disclosed 07/02/2001 by Riley Hassell with eEye (Website). The advisory is shared at archives.neohapsis.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2001-0423. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
