with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. admin.php in PHP-Nuke 5.2 and earlier, except 5.0RC1, does not check login credentials for upload operations, which allows remote attackers to copy and upload arbitrary files and read the PHP-Nuke configuration file by directly calling admin.php with an upload parameter and specifying the file to copy.
The weakness was published 09/24/2001 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at xforce.iss.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2001-1032. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
By approaching the search of inurl:admin.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 10772 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 1300. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 818.
