A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5/6.0 (Web Browser). This affects an unknown functionality in the library mshtml.dll of the component ActiveX Control Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Buffer overflow in the implementation of an HTML directive in mshtml.dll in Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a web page that specifies embedded ActiveX controls in a way that causes 2 Unicode strings to be concatenated.
The issue has been introduced in 07/08/2000. The weakness was shared 03/08/2002 with Microsoft as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at cert.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2002-0022. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
