A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in GNU screen 3.9.4/3.9.8/3.9.9/3.9.10/3.9.11. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component Braille Module. Buffer overflow in the Braille module for GNU screen 3.9.11, when HAVE_BRAILLE is defined, allows local users to execute arbitrary code.
The weakness was disclosed 04/23/2002 by Gobbles as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1602 since 03/25/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
