Cross-site scripting vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6.0 allows remote attackers to execute scripts in the Local Computer zone via a URL that exploits a local HTML resource file, aka the "Cross-Site Scripting in Local HTML Resource" vulnerability.
The issue has been introduced in 08/27/2001. The weakness was released 05/29/2002 as MS02-023 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2002-0189. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
