A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in MRTG 2.9.17. Affected is an unknown code block of the file 14all.cgi/14all-1.1.cgi/traffic.cgi/mrtg.cgi. The manipulation of the argument cfg
with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) allows remote attackers to read portions of arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the cfg parameter for (1) 14all.cgi, (2) 14all-1.1.cgi, (3) traffic.cgi, or (4) mrtg.cgi.
The weakness was released 05/29/2002 by Security Team as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2002-0232.
