Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the file user_update.php. The manipulation of the argument job_information with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting vulnerability in DCP-Portal 4.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to gain privileges of other portal users by providing Javascript in the job information field to user_update.php.

The weakness was disclosed 05/31/2002 by Ahmet Sabri Alper (Website). The advisory is shared for download at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-0281. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

By approaching the search of inurl:user_update.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 10497 (DCP-Portal User Details Cross Site Scripting Vulnerability).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
