The weakness was released 08/22/2002 by Auriemma Luigi as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2002-1079. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86392 (Abyss Web Server Encoded Backslash Directory Traversal Vulnerability).
