. The manipulation of the argument sd_struiowrq
with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. Solaris 2.5.1 through 9 allows local users to cause a denial of service (kernel panic) by setting the sd_struiowrq variable in the struioget function to null, which triggers a null dereference.
The bug was discovered 12/03/2002. The weakness was disclosed 12/03/2002 by FIRST (Website). The advisory is shared for download at sunsolve.sun.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-1586 since 02/08/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally.
