This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file worldclient.cgi of the component Worldclient. The manipulation of the argument Attachments with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in WorldClient.cgi in WorldClient for Alt-N Technologies MDaemon 5.0.5.0 and earlier allows local users to delete arbitrary files via a ".." (dot dot) in the Attachments parameter.

The bug was discovered 05/07/2002. The weakness was shared 12/31/2002 by Obscure (Website). The advisory is shared for download at online.securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-1741 since 06/21/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
