The manipulation of the argument album with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. The getAlbumToDisplay function in idsShared.pm for Image Display System (IDS) 0.81 allows remote attackers to determine the existence of arbitrary directories via ".." sequences in the album parameter, which generates different error messages depending on whether the directory exists or not.

The weakness was published 12/31/2002 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at online.securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-1837 since 06/29/2005.
