A vulnerability has been found in MIT Kerberos (Network Authentication Software) and classified as problematic. The Key Distribution Center (KDC) in Kerberos 5 (krb5) 1.2.7 and earlier allows remote, authenticated attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) on KDCs within the same realm using a certain protocol request that causes an out-of-bounds read of an array (aka "array overrun").
The weakness was presented 04/02/2003 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at debian.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2003-0072 since 02/04/2003. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks and running in the context l. Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 2578.
