Adobe Acrobat 5 does not properly validate JavaScript in PDF files, which allows remote attackers to write arbitrary files into the Plug-ins folder that spread to other PDF documents, as demonstrated by the W32.Yourde virus.

The bug was discovered 04/30/2003. The weakness was published 06/16/2003 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2003-0284 since 05/13/2003. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
