An issue was found in fts5UnicodeTokenize() in ext/fts5/fts5_tokenize.c in Sqlite. A unicode61 tokenizer configured to treat unicode "control-characters" (class Cc), was treating embedded nul characters as tokens. The issue was fixed in sqlite-3.34.0 and later.
The weakness was shared 08/26/2022 as d1d43efa4fb0f2098c0e2c5bf2e807c58d5ec05b. The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2021-20223 since 12/17/2020. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1055 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 3.34.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch d1d43efa4fb0f2098c0e2c5bf2e807c58d5ec05b is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
