A vulnerability was found in Debian Linux 3.0 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function start_form
of the file CGI.pm. The manipulation of the argument action
with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Impacted is integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in start_form() of CGI.pm allows remote attackers to insert web script via a URL that is fed into the form s action parameter.
The weakness was disclosed 08/27/2003 by Obscure as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2003-0615 since 07/30/2003. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
