A vulnerability was found in phpWebSite 0.9.0 (Content Management System). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component Calendar Module. The manipulation of the argument year with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. SQL injection vulnerability in the Calendar module of phpWebSite 0.9.x and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL queries, as demonstrated using the year parameter.

The bug was discovered 08/12/2003. The weakness was disclosed 10/20/2003 by Lorenzo Hernandez Garcia-Hierro as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2003-0735 since 09/03/2003. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 11816 (phpWebSite < 0.9.x Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11383 (PHP Website Calendar Module SQL Injection Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 2326.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (12891) and Tenable (11816). The entries 17036, 20888, 20889 and 20890 are pretty similar.
