A vulnerability was found in BEA Tuxedo up to 8.1. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component Administration Console. The manipulation of the argument INIFILE with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Administration Console for BEA Tuxedo 8.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script via the INIFILE argument.

The bug was discovered 10/29/2003. The weakness was presented 12/01/2003 with Corsaire Limited (Website). The advisory is shared at marc.info. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2003-0623 since 07/31/2003. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 33 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86700 (BEA Tuxedo and WebLogic Enterprise Input Validation Vulnerability).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
